[ad_1]

The Volvo XC40 is the best-selling vehicle in Norway in April

New car sales in Norway fall a steep -26.1% to 9,725 registrations, leading to a year-to-date volume off -15% to 42,067. BEV sales are down just -0.3% year-on-year to 7,207, improving their share to 74.1% vs. 54.9% a year ago, and are up 28.9% year-to-date to 34,010 and 80.8% share vs. 53.3% over the same period in 2021. In contrast PHEV sales are off -70.4% to 982 and down -76.2% year-to-date to 3,320 and HEV is off -22.8% to 709 and -45.8% YTD to 1,891. Petrol holds 5.3% share has month and 3.6% year-to-date and diesel is at 3.2% in April and 3.1% YTD.

Volvo (-24.7%) evolves roughly like the market this month and is up 6 spots on March to snap the brands pole position with 10.4% share vs. 6.3% so far this year (#6). Volkswagen (-65.8%) totally freefalls but stays in 2nd place overall with 8.5% share. It distances BMW (-9.4%) up two ranks to #3, Toyota (-52.5%) taking a fierce blow year-on-year but up six ranks on last month to #4. Kia (+105.9%), Hyundai (+75.6%) and Ford (+12.2%) lodge very solid and market-defying scores in the remainder of the Top 10. Mercedes (-37%) and Skoda (-30.1%) struggle. Further down, Xpeng (+450%), Opel (+47.1%), Porsche (+30.6%) and Citroen (+16.4%) shine while newcomers Hongqi (#18) and BYD (#21) remain strong.

Model-wise, the Volvo XC40 (-27.7%) is up seven spots on March to sign its first ever monthly win in Norway with 6.4% share, more than double its YTD level of 3%. The Skoda Enyaq (+44.3%) is up 18 ranks on last month to land in 2nd position with 5% of the market while the VW ID.4 (-75.9%), #1 a year ago and now imploding, manages to stay #3. The BMW iX is up two spots on March to #4 ahead of the Polestar 2 (-29.2%), Ford Mustang Mach-E (+620.5%) celebrating one year in market at #6 and the Audi e-Tron (-52.7%). Among other recent launches, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 ranks #8 (-3) followed by the Audi Q4 e-Tron at #13 (-9), Volvo C40 at #16 (+2) Hongqi E-HS9 at #18 (-1) and Kia EV6 at #20 (+17).
