This email came from Professor Angela Valenzuela:
Hope all are doing well in this difficult time that is so incredibly heartbreaking and profoundly enraging. These sentiments are widely shared by our community here in Texas as they must be everywhere.
My partner, Emilio and I, made it to Uvalde this past weekend and returned feeling really moved to thought and action surrounding the whole ordeal that you can read out here if you like:

Remembering Uziyah Sergio Garcia (August 13, 2011 ~ May 24, 2022) of San Angelo, Texas
Emilio, myself, and members of Nuestro Grupo/Academia Cuauhtli, our Saturday school, are convening Sunday’s press conference and healing ceremony and write primarily to invite you and your families to it in order to both honor the victims and survivors in Uvalde and to promote our own healing with our children, parents, Austin community, and nation.
It takes place physically this Sunday at 9AM CST in the zócalo at the ESB-MACC located at 600 River St. in Austin, TX 78701.
Please drop by if you happen to be in the area.
Our ceremony will be livestreamed on at least 3 pages as follows: on the Academia Cuauhtli Facebook page, the HABLA (Hispanic Advocates Business Leaders of Austin), as well as on the National LULAC Facebook page.
The event begins with a press conference at 9AM with danza Mexica (Aztec dance) ceremony beginning at 10AM CST and concluding around 12:00PM CST.
If you cannot make it to Austin, do invite your children and grandchildren, in particular, to join us virtually at 10AM when danza begins. The adults can join us earlier at 9AM for our livestreamed press conference. This will give you a chance to hear what is on the hearts and minds of key leaders and members of the Latina/o/x community.
